In 2011, the KAMM Board of Directors implemented a Mitigation Manager of the Year (MMOTY) award as a way to recognize public sector mitigation champions who have had a positive impact on furthering the KAMM mission of building resilient communities across the Commonwealth. In 2013, the Board added a Floodplain Manager of the Year to bring recognition to Kentucky’s floodplain managers who excel in floodplain management in their communities, and this award eventually merged with the MMOTY in 2017. To keep on sharing the mitigation love, in 2018 the Board added a Mitigation Project of the Year (MPOTY) award which highlights the successful implementation of mitigation projects and educational outreach programs that adhere to the purpose of KAMM.
KAMM members nominate leaders and projects to vie for award recognition. KAMM’s Awards & Grants Committee administers the mitigation awards nomination and selection process and awards winners at the annual KAMM conference.
Solicitation for nominations runs concurrently with annual conference registration and nominations for KAMM governance. The MMOTY and MPOTY nomination announcement asks:
Has someone in your community implemented a successful mitigation project? Is there an exemplary leader who is promoting resiliency through mitigation? Have you observed partnerships or collaborations that strengthened mitigation in your community? Nominate them! These efforts deserve recognition, and KAMM wants to share the success stories that might otherwise go unacknowledged.
The nominee may be a successful strategy, project, program, or individual who has made a positive impact within a community or an agency working to promote the benefits of hazard mitigation.
